Jackie Johnson and John B. Johnson (no relation to each other) led the prosecution for the state of Georgia in the train accident death of crew member Sarah Jones during location shooting of “Midnight Rider” on Feb. 20, 2014. The director, Randall Miller, received a two-year sentence after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter. Jackie Johnson is elected to her office; John Johnson specializes in death-penalty and murder cases. Their district covers Southeast Georgia. “For me, the ‘Midnight Rider’ case was (an opportunity) to learn about the movie business,” says John Johnson. “For the Georgia movie industry, it had the impact that we wanted, which is to call to the attention of directors, producers, first assistant directors and casting executives that if they come to Georgia to make movies we want them to pay attention to safety issues. ”
